Cockroaches thrive in warm conditions so they’re mostly found in kitchens, laundry rooms, bathrooms and airing cupboards. They are nocturnal, hiding away during the day in cracks and crevices, behind tiles, notice boards and panels, in dark corners inside drawers and cupboards, inside electrical equipment such as fridges, junction boxes, light fittings etc. If you see cockroaches frequently during the day then the infestation is usually quite serious. • Constant Reintroduction: Cockroaches enter commercial premises through laundry, raw food materials, crates, packaging, drains, and rubbish chutes. No matter how clean a facility is, new pests can be brought in daily. • Rapid Reproduction: A small, unnoticed introduction can explode into a massive infestation within weeks. Regular baiting and spraying break their breeding cycles. • Regulatory Compliance: EHOs have the authority to issue Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notices, which can instantly shut down a business if an active infestation poses an imminent risk to public health. • Business Reputation: Infestations lead to poor hygiene ratings, public embarrassment, loss of customer trust, and severe financial penalties. Preparation You must undertake prior to treatment Ensure kitchen worktops, under the cooker and kitchen cabinets are clean and free from crumbs and grease. Clean and degrease under, inside and outside cookers, fridges, etc. Empty cupboards and drawers and clean them, inside and outside. Vacuum carpets and wash floors. Contact neighbours or any building connected to yours to see if they have a cockroach problem. Remove any food that is left out, including pet food. Ensure cutlery, food, clothes, towels, toothbrushes etc are covered. Aftercare If you get gel bait on your skin wash it off immediately. Keep food covered if it is left out. Keep the floor under floor-standing equipment clean. Be prepared to see dead cockroaches for a few weeks after each treatment. Remove these to the outside bin for disposal.
